This year the Junction Arts Festival is once again going to be a free 1km long street event brimming with both live and visual art. Along Dundas Street West, from Quebec Avenue to Keele Street, the festival will host the best Toronto, national and international artists, on the street, in the galleries and in the shops and restaurants.

Open Season Theatre Seeks Actors

Open Season Theatre is proudly presenting ‘Icarus Redux’, a new play by Sean O’Neill, as part of the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival with a possible remount in Montreal following Fringe.

About the show:
The myth of Icarus reimagined. A detached father and his volatile son struggle to find communion in this poetic and darkly funny new play.

We are currently casting the following roles:

DAEDALUS (Male, 50s): A professor attempting to find a feeling of purpose and hope following the death of his wife and the mental decline of his only child, an adult son. Aloof and condescending, but also self-aware and sensitive, the play is told from his perspective.

THE BOY (Male, early 20s): Paralyzed by grief and anxiety following his mother’s death, the boy spends his days inside, struggling to keep his mind clear. He is his own best friend, he talks to himself, he loses himself in his fantasies BUT he is also extremely intelligent and genuinely funny. His moments of clairty are reveletory and he is the emotional propellor of the play. Battles daily to get his father to engage in any sort of conversation, menial or explosive.

Soulpepper’s Studio 55 Offers Free Program For Youth

Soulpepper’s Studio 55 is a program that takes youth ‘behind-the-scenes’ to get a greater understanding of our productions. The group experiences hands-on workshops with a Soulpepper artist, on-stage performances and post-show talkbacks with the cast. Each workshop explores the themes of the show and reveals unique insight on an aspect of theatre production such as direction, design or performance. The Studio 55 guest artists expose the preparation required in the studio before a final product appears on stage. In addition to providing a free workshop and theatre ticket, we provide a per diem for meals and TTC tickets for each session.

Torontonians of all ages are invited to get creative and submit their Toronto inspired works to the first-ever Get Lit! Competition.

Get Lit! invites submissions in any creative form providing the final work includes a literary element. Get Lit! explores how text and spoken word can be presented in various media and will present new ways of telling city stories. Everyone is invited to tell their stories through a work of art, poem, short story, film or even a sound recording. All entries will be a part of a special weekend long exhibition on May 23 and 24, where Doors Open visitors can learn more about the Toronto Arts Council, its literary grants programs, and check out and read all the Get Lit! entries!

The Pheasant Plucker’s Mates Theatre Company Seeks Actors

The Pheasant Plucker’s Mates Theatre Company is holding auditions for their upcoming show Politically Correct Bedtime Stories which will be performed this summer in the Toronto Fringe Festival, July 1-12.

The Driftwood Theatre Group Seeks Crew Members

The Driftwood Theatre Group, Ontario’s Outdoor Summer Touring Theatre company, is searching for Crew Members for their summer tour starting June 30th to August 23rd.

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

-The safe and efficient set up and strike of all theatre equipment on touring sites.
