Nominations are open for Mixed Company Theatre’s Rising Star Award. Mixed Company Theatre invites members of the public to nominate youth 25 years and under for the Award.

The Rising Star Award will be presented to a young person who has created positive solutions by educating, engaging, and empowering his/her peers and community.

IMPACT Seeks Project Leaders

Individuals Making Positive Social Change Together (IMPACT) is the youth advisory committee for Mixed Company Theatre. IMPACT is inviting new members to submit project proposals for our winter and spring shows.
As a Project Leader, you are responsible for;
-attending mandatory meetings (Thursday Nov 5, Thursday Dec 3) and weekly meetings starting January and March
-to organize and develop a forum theatre presentation in a collaborative setting.
-to set up community soundings and organize a small tour of the show.

Bottom line: Girl Guides is more important than it’s ever been.

Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival Call to Filmmakers

The Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is now accepting submissions. The festival will showcase cinematic works created by youth that are thought-provoking and a strong sense of storytelling that represents the visions of the city’s wide of cultures.

The festival comprises of two parts; a screening and the awards gala. The screening will be held on June 4th at Innis Town Hall. The awards gala will be held at the Centennial College Residence and Conference Centre on June 6th.

If you’re a youth filmmaker with an interesting story to tell on screen, we recommend you submit your work to us. Directors of all accepted submissions will be invited to take part in the festivities in an fun and interactive manner.

Junction Arts Festival Request for Proposals

The Junction Forum for Art and Culture is now accepting applications and creative proposals for the 2009 Junction Arts Festival.

This year the Junction Arts Festival is once again going to be a free 1km long street event brimming with both live and visual art. Along Dundas Street West, from Quebec Avenue to Keele Street, the festival will host the best Toronto, national and international artists, on the street, in the galleries and in the shops and restaurants.

Kiteworks: Call to Performing and Visual Artists

Established in 2008, KiteWorks is a collective of community-minded artists who strive to celebrate and create community connections. We are inviting artists of all disciplines to submit proposals for the inaugural community arts festival KiteSite: Ronces-dale/Park-valles occurring Saturday, April 4th 2009. We are seeking artistic projects that creatively reflect on local histories, present-day realities and/or future visions of Roncesvalles/Parkdale. As sections of the neighbourhood are about to undergo a ‘renewal,’ we are particularly interested in projects that critically consider themes of renewal such as politics of neighbourhood beautification and urban revitalization.

Call for Performing Artists — Parkdale Liberty BIA

After the December rush of holiday shopping and activities, the city usually falls quiet as people recuperate from the flurry of activity. The weather also plays a factor on people’s desire to remain indoors where it’s warm and comfortable.

Parkdale Village Business Improvement Area (PVBIA) is hosting “Fireside Culture Week”. The event is a mixture of song, spoken word, film, dance and art in participating businesses (cafes, galleries, restaurants, etc) along Queen Street West from Dufferin Street to Roncesvalles Avenue. The event runs from March 1-March 7, 2009.
