Nominations are open for Mixed Company Theatre’s Rising Star Award. Mixed Company Theatre invites members of the public to nominate youth 25 years and under for the Award.
The Rising Star Award will be presented to a young person who has created positive solutions by educating, engaging, and empowering his/her peers and community.

As a Project Leader, you are responsible for;
-attending mandatory meetings (Thursday Nov 5, Thursday Dec 3) and weekly meetings starting January and March
-to organize and develop a forum theatre presentation in a collaborative setting.
-to set up community soundings and organize a small tour of the show.

But now, every day, girls are bombarded by media and commercial messages, they’re bullying each other, they’re discovering the dangers of the internet, spending less and less time outdoors and more and more time in front of computers and television, feeling pressure to lose weight and have sex…and they’re still experiencing racism and discrimination, even now.

Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival Call to Filmmakers

The festival will showcase cinematic works created by youth that are thought-provoking and a strong sense of storytelling that represents the visions of the city’s wide of cultures.
The festival comprises of two parts; a screening and the awards gala. The screening will be held on June 4th at Innis Town Hall. The awards gala will be held at the Centennial College Residence and Conference Centre on June 6th.
If you’re a youth filmmaker with an interesting story to tell on screen, we recommend you submit your work to us. Directors of all accepted submissions will be invited to take part in the festivities in an fun and interactive manner.

We are seeking artistic projects that creatively reflect on local histories, present-day realities and/or future visions of Roncesvalles/Parkdale. As sections of the neighbourhood are about to undergo a ‘renewal,’ we are particularly interested in projects that critically consider themes of renewal such as politics of neighbourhood beautification and urban revitalization.

Parkdale Village Business Improvement Area (PVBIA) is hosting “Fireside Culture Week”. The event is a mixture of song, spoken word, film, dance and art in participating businesses (cafes, galleries, restaurants, etc) along Queen Street West from Dufferin Street to Roncesvalles Avenue. The event runs from March 1-March 7, 2009.
