<p>Reporting to the Artistic Coordinator, this Intern position offers an excellent opportunity to gain<br />
knowledge in running creation and professional development programs that engage established<br />
theatre artists, emerging voices and youth, as well as the overall artistic activities of a large theatre<br />
organization, including casting and season programming.<br />

<strong>About The Canadian Stage Company:</strong><br />
Based in Toronto, The Canadian Stage Company develops and produces the best in Canadian and<br />
international contemporary theatre and is Canada&#8217;s largest contemporary theatre company.</p>
<p><strong>Major Responsibilities include:</strong><br />
-Assisting with the research and organization of projects for current and upcoming seasons, as well as maintaining departmental resources<br />
-Assisting in the organization of submissions and casting activities<br />
-Assisting with the co-ordination for programs for professional artists including creation programs, the BASH! Artist Development Program and other new initiatives<br />
-Assisting with the co-ordination for programs for emerging artists and theatre students such as The Gymnasium Emerging Artist Development Program<br />
-Assisting with the co-ordination for programs for youth and opportunities for young artists<br />
-Assisting with the co-ordination for The Festival of Ideas and Creation<br />
-Documenting artistic activities and reporting on findings, compiling feedback and contributing to overall program evaluation</p>
<p>The Intern will have opportunities to participate in artistic program planning and visioning sessions, and where appropriate, opportunities to develop leadership skills in the implementation of new initiatives.</p>
<p>The Canadian Stage Company Artistic Programs Intern must commit to 18 &#8211; 25 hrs per week.<br />
Schedule can be flexible.</p>
<p><strong>Ideal Personal Qualities:</strong><br />
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills<br />
- Interest in theatre creation and producing, artistic development and casting<br />
- Experience in leadership roles and desire to improve leadership skills<br />
- Passion for the performing arts and a working knowledge of Toronto’s professional theatre scene<br />
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team<br />
- Previous office administration experience and previous creation experience are an asset<br />
- Highly organized Self-starter. Full training will be provided but in some cases the successful<br />
candidate will be asked to work independently on assigned projects.<br />
- High computer proficiency (MS Word &amp; Excel experience preferred, e-mail and internet)<br />
- Being enrolled in a course of study that involves interning at an arts organization is considered an<br />
asset but not required.</p>
<p>In addition to the many benefits of The Canadian Stage Company&#8217;s Intern Program which include information sessions with staff members of their choice, the successful candidate will also be in contact with some of Canada’s leading theatre artists and will have opportunity to take part in festival events. The intern will also receive free tickets to Canadian Stage productions and will be invited to readings, workshops and other artistic development initiatives. We strive to make our intern positions as valuable an experience as possible.</p>

<p>The Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is going into its 2nd year and is seeking a Marketing and Media Director (MMD). The MMD will work collaboratively with other staff members and report to the Project Manager. The MMD will be responsible for generating marketing materials and brochures for the festival.  In addition to performing the listed duties described below on their own hours, the MMD will be required to attend a planning meeting with staff every two weeks and work full time hours for the week of June 22-26, 2010 for the execution of festival events.<br />

 &#8211; Working with other staff members to brainstorm programming and creative presentation ideas<br />
 &#8211; Assist programmers with ordering, purchasing and distributing all program materials<br />
 &#8211; Assist Project Manager in seeking media sponsorship<br />
 &#8211; Create festival news releases to be sent out to media</p>
<p>Implementation:<br />
 &#8211; Design all marketing materials to be distributed in print and online<br />
 &#8211; Update and maintain online content, maintaining a constant flow of communication online, including social media<br />
 &#8211; Act as primary contact person with all media personnel at the festival</p>
<p>During Event:<br />
 &#8211; Attend all festival events to photo-document the event</p>
<p>REQUIREMENTS: </p>
<p>The candidate should have:<br />
 &#8211; Previous experience in working public events<br />
 &#8211; Design skills in Photoshop, Quark or Illustrator<br />
 &#8211; Demonstrate knowledge of youth trends<br />
 &#8211; Knowledge of social media applications<br />
 &#8211; Creativity and imagination, employing an outside the box thinking style<br />
 &#8211; Must be able to understand client design needs and adjust work accordingly<br />
 &#8211; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, working as an excellent team player<br />
 &#8211; Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines<br />
 &#8211; Flexible with scheduling</p>
<p> &#8211; Education in one of art, publication, marketing and journalism an asset<br />
 &#8211; Access to a high quality digital camera and strong photography skills an asset</p>

 &#8211; Contact various food establishments for the opening night party<br />
 &#8211; Contact potential food and beverage sponsors for the festival</p>
<p>Implementation:<br />
 &#8211; Assist in festival set up and strike.<br />
 &#8211; Manage all on-site aspects of awards gala including any on-site arrangements required<br />
 &#8211; Manage any receptions taking place pre/post screenings<br />
 &#8211; Coordinate screenplay comedy night at a local venue<br />
 &#8211; Act as the primary contact for food and beverage personnel that will be providing services to the festival</p>
<p>Post-Festival:<br />
 &#8211; Generate thank you letters to caterers and banquet personnel<br />
 &#8211; Generate post-event report for all special events</p>
<p>REQUIREMENTS: </p>
<p>The candidate should have the following:<br />
 &#8211; Previous experience in organizing hosted dinner parties and banquets<br />
 &#8211; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, displaying diplomacy, pleasant conversation manners, excellent email etiquette and work as an excellent team player<br />
 &#8211; Knowledge of Toronto’s bars and restaurants<br />
 &#8211; Strong negotiator, being able to identify festival and sponsor needs to come up with a sponsor plan<br />

<p>The Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is going into its 2nd year and is seeking a Technical Director (TD). The TD will work collaboratively with other staff members and report to the Project Manager. The TD will be responsible for all operations in running the festival screenings and act as liaison to theatre venues.  In addition to performing the listed duties described below on their own hours, the TD will be required to attend a planning meeting with staff every two weeks and commit full days for the week of June 22-26, 2010 for the execution of festival events.<br />

Planning:<br />
 &#8211; Negotiate contracts and discounts with theatre venues in the city<br />
 &#8211; Working with other staff members to brainstorm programming and creative presentation ideas<br />
 &#8211; Work with Artistic Outreach Director in coordinating the T-24 Project<br />
 &#8211; Responsible for retrieving any audio-visual needs by other staff</p>
<p>Implementation:<br />
 &#8211; Act as the primary contact for personnel at festival screening venues<br />
 &#8211; Organize all film submissions into lineup for screenings<br />
 &#8211; Work as primary showrunner during festival screenings, managing all on-site aspects of the screenings, including ensuring the smooth functioning of screening materials<br />
 &#8211; Assist in festival set up and strike<br />
 &#8211; Generate thank you letters to screening venue staff</p>
<p>Post Festival:<br />
 &#8211; Develop a post-event report for each screening</p>
<p>REQUIREMENTS:<br />
Candidate should have:<br />
 &#8211; Previous experience in working public events, preferably a festival related to the arts<br />
 &#8211; Strong technical knowledge and grasp of video and new media formats<br />
 &#8211; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, displaying diplomacy, pleasant conversation manners, excellent email etiquette and work as an excellent team player<br />
 &#8211; Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines<br />
 &#8211; Creativity and imagination, employing an outside the box thinking style<br />
 &#8211; Must be flexible with scheduling</p>
<p> &#8211; Strong knowledge in video editing and production considered an asset<br />
 &#8211; Prior experience in audio-visual operations an asset</p>
<p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: </p>
<p>Hours are bi-monthly meetings plus any additional tasks required on a per assignment basis.  We operate on a flexible schedule and job would be great experience for students and/or recent graduates.</p>

<p>Artistic and General Director Matthew Jocelyn and Associate Director of Programming Natasha Mytnowych have announced a call for General Auditions to be held in early December.</p>
<p>Please submit a hard copy resume/photo by 5 p.m. Friday, November 27th, 2009.</p>
<p>Please note on resume ACTRA and Equity status, and training. We encourage submissions from artists of diverse cultures.  Artists currently enrolled full time in a post secondary conservatory training program will be seen at Ontario Showcase and therefore will not be given a separate General Audition at this time.<br />

Performers selected for an audition will be called by Wednesday, December 2, 2009 and should prepare two contemporary pieces, each under 2 minutes in length.  One must be originally written in English and the other must be a translation of a work from another language.  Please note, you may only be asked to perform one selection during your audition.</p>
<p>We will not be holding separate musical theatre auditions this year.</p>
<p>We thank everyone for their interest; however, only those selected for an audition will be contacted.</p>
