Canadian Stage Company Call for General Auditions

Artistic and General Director Matthew Jocelyn and Associate Director of Programming Natasha Mytnowych have announced a call for General Auditions to be held in early December.

Please submit a hard copy resume/photo by 5 p.m. Friday, November 27th, 2009.

Please note on resume ACTRA and Equity status, and training. We encourage submissions from artists of diverse cultures. Artists currently enrolled full time in a post secondary conservatory training program will be seen at Ontario Showcase and therefore will not be given a separate General Audition at this time.

Performers selected for an audition will be called by Wednesday, December 2, 2009 and should prepare two contemporary pieces, each under 2 minutes in length. One must be originally written in English and the other must be a translation of a work from another language. Please note, you may only be asked to perform one selection during your audition.

We will not be holding separate musical theatre auditions this year.

most human of all stories: how do parents balance love and care for their children with the need to allow
them to make their own mistakes?

Is there a secret rocker hiding inside you? Do you have what it takes to belt out a rockin’ song? Or maybe you know someone – a friend, neighbour, niece, nephew, son, daughter, pool boy – who has a special musical talent? He or she may be discovered and land a role in ROCK OF AGES, just like We Will Rock You’s Erica Peck and Yvan Pedneault, RENT’s Chad Richardson or Miss Saigon’s Ma-Anne Dionisio!

There will be an open audition (open to everybody) for roles in ROCK OF AGES happening this Thursday, Oct. 29! We’re seeking strong singers – male and female both – in their 20s to their 40s – who move well. All shapes and sizes and ethnicities welcome.

The place to be is Estonian House. 958 Broadview Avenue, north of Danforth.

The time to be there is 9:30 AM Sign in begins at 9:30 and continues to 12 noon. Auditions begin at 10 AM (sharp!).

Be prepared to sing 16 bars of one or two brief rock and roll songs from the ’80s, with sheet music. No musical theatre tunes, please. A pianist will be provided… or you may feel free to bring your own guitar.

WRITE FROM THE HIP 2010 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Are you an Emerging Female Playwright?

“Nightwood is a fertile breeding ground for new female talent.” – Michele Landsberg, Toronto Star

Nightwood Theatre’s 11th annual emerging playwriting program, Write From the Hip is now accepting submissions from 18-29 year-old women looking for an opportunity to develop and write a play and advance their craft. Write from the Hip is a series of weekly workshops, mentoring and hands-on seminars in writing skills and professional play development specifically designed for emerging playwrights. Past mentors have included: D’bi Young, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Judith Thompson, Claudia Dey, Morwyn Brebner, Florence Gibson, Iris Turcott, Marjorie Chan and Lisa Codrington. This year each participant will complete a new short work of 20-25 minute inspired by a newspaper article. The workshop will include a pitch session with artistic director Kelly Thornton. The play is then workshopped and staged on the final night of Write from the Hip in August 2010. Write from the Hip will begin January 25th and runs mainly on Monday nights from 630-930pm.

Nightwood Theatre has a long history of producing socially relevant, provocative theatre about women’s place in the world. Mentorship is a key component at Nightwood Theatre and one that provides a fundamental service to the community of young female artists pursuing careers in professional theatre. We see ourselves as a gateway for women entering theatre, and believe that a passion and commitment to the emerging artist can indeed produce the leaders of tomorrow. The Teen Foundation Class is for students new to improv or those with experience outside of the Bad Dog. We will learn/review the basics of improvisation and introduce students to the fundamentals we draw on during subsequent sessions.

Students in our Teen Classes will have the opportunity to be a part of the creation of Bad Dog Theatre’s Young Company, an elite group of improvisers with an emphasis on public performances. The Young Company will be comprised of students and alumni of the Bad Dog Teen courses.

With over 1400 members, St. Alban’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club meets the challenges and needs of children and youth in the Seaton Village, Annex, Frankle-Lambert and Palmerston neighbourhoods. St. Alban’s offers a number of exciting programs and services including: a preschool, child/parent programs, summer camp, outreach services, public swimming times, aquatic lessons, after school care, sports programs, computer skills, arts programs, youth drop in programs, a homeless shelter, prevention and education, tutoring, mentoring, community and skill based programs. At St. Alban’s, we strive to maintain and strengthen our core services to children and youth while growing to meet the varied and changing needs of our community.

St. Alban’s Boys and Girls Club is looking for an individual who has experience working in radio journalism to mentor youth as part of a weekly radio show. They will be responsible for teaching youth about how to research and report stories on the topic of drugs, social issues and pop culture. The successful candidate will be required to work 4hrs /week – 2 hrs of independent work and 2 hrs on Monday between 6-8pm, for the show.

Boobalicious (www.boobalicious.ca) is seeking actors to perform at the Toronto event on October 16th 2009 at the Sound Academy in Toronto.

Boobalicious is attempting to top the 50k we raised last year to support The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and Keep a Breast. With that goal in mind we are looking for actors to volunteer their time and talents to help us support this very worthy cause.

This year’s event is carnival themed. We need actors to create a vaierty of circus, carney style characters and scenes to portray in our Carnival Peep Show which will provide our event patrons with a glimpse into the seedy underbelly of Circus life.

Actors will rotate into this set in groups ranging from 1 person to 4 in half an hour intervals from 9 pm- 1 am
